Jonathan A. Burns

Jonathan takes a short break.

Jonathan received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Temple University in 2009, and his M.A. in Anthropology from Colorado State University in 1996. His academic training is in prehistoric archaeology – specializing in the detailed excavation of rockshelters and stratified sites; with particular interests in the peopling of the Americas, caching behavior, three-dimensional site mapping, spatial analysis, and Human Ecology. Jonathan has field directed over 15 cultural resource management projects in Pennsylvania; was the crew chief of site mapping and excavation with heavy machinery for the National Constitution Center site in Philadelphia; and conducted detailed sub-meter block excavations at four stratified archaeological sites in Pennsylvania. Also possessing extensive experience in historic archaeology, Jonathan again instructed Penn State University’s Archaeological field school (2011) excavations in Shirleysburg, PA, in search of further remnants of Colonial era Fort Shirley, continuing work from the prior year.  Jonathan and others plan to return in the summer of 2012 for another excellent field season.
