Kurt Carr has been with the Bureau for Historic Preservation, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission since 1980 and served as the Chief of the Division of Archaeology and Protection between 1988 and 2005.  Kurt has since taken over as senior curator of the PHMC. He has conducted fieldwork at stratified Paleoindian and Early Archaic sites along the Shenandoah River, stratified Late Archaic and Woodland sites along the Delaware River, Late Woodland villages in the Lower Susquehanna Valley, and jasper and rhyolite quarry sites. His research interests include Early Holocene adaptations, lithic technology, settlement pattern analysis, geomorphology and environmental reconstructions.   He has also conducted fieldwork in the Ukraine and Italy. He is very concerned with the impacts of state and federal construction projects on archaeological resources and the impacts of “sprawl” in general to all cultural resources. Kurt is a lecturer at the Harrisburg Area Community College.
